Summarizing Students’ Free Responses for an Introductory Algebra-Based Physics Course Survey Using Cluster and Sentiment Analysis

چکیده

In Physics Higher Education (PHE), Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET) surveys are widely used to collect students’ feedback on courses and instructions. our research, we propose a more efficient way summarize free responses from the Assessment their Learning Gains (SALG) survey [1], form SET survey, an algebra-based introductory physics course at large Canadian research university. Specifically, use cluster sentiment analysis methods such as K-means [2] Valence Aware Dictionary for sEntiment Reasoning (VADER) [3] responses. For analysis, extract popular keywords summaries in different clusters that reflect dominant opinions toward each aspect course. Notably, obtain average silhouette coefficient 0.480. addition, analyze sentiments determined through applying VADER. Intriguingly, see VADER (micro F1 = 0.57, macro 0.55) can better classify with positive (F1 0.62) neutral 0.59). However, evident disagreements arise negative 0.42). suggests some Likert-scale deviate response due limitations By creating various visualizations, discover Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods, effectively responses, several limitations.

Plasma physics: an introductory survey

A plasma is an ionised gas in which the nearest neighbour interactions between the electrically-charged constituents (negatively-charged electrons and positivelycharged ions, which are in equal numbers so as to maintain overall electrical neutrality) is dominated by the long-range interactions of many ‘distant’ particles. In fact, many plasmas contain a significant number of unionised neutral a...
